Amy hosts roundtable conversations with women who create independent media. The goal is to have honest, peer-to-peer discussions that don’t happen nearly enough in this space. For each one hour conversation Amy picks a topic related the work of creating. These are live streamed on YouTube. It’s brand new but I’ve done 3 panels and I’m working on the fourth. You can find them here:
Right now she’s looking for podcasters and YouTubers who want to pull up a microphone and a webcam around a virtual table.
About the Creator Roundtable
The Creator Roundtable is a live conversation for women who make shows. Audio podcasts, YouTube channels, streaming shows, newsletters, magazines. Listen, I know this is broad. That’s part of the point. Creators tend to do a variety of things and the truth is I’m a little tired of feeling like I don’t fit into a conversation or my experience being discounted just because I’m not all in all the time on one distribution channel. If you are building an audience around something you create and distribute, this is your table.
Each episode brings together a rotating panel of women creators for an honest, peer-to-peer conversation about what it actually takes to build something in the creator economy. The panel changes. The theme changes. The perspectives, the experience level, and the conversation are always fresh.
There are a lot of shows about podcasting, YouTube, newsletters, and the creator economy. What separates this one is what it isn’t.
It’s not a masterclass. It’s not a panel of experts telling you what to do. It’s not vendor-sponsored opinion dressed up as advice. It’s not a guru recruiting you into a high-ticket course.
This is women at every stage of the creator journey โ newly launched, mid-build, established, reinventing โ talking openly about actual stuff. Time, money, burnout, tech, growth, community, doubt, and the moments that actually matter.
If you show up for the live show you can be part of the conversation. Drop your questions in the comments and add your voice to the table.
The Creator Roundtable. Women Building Independent Media.
Who makes an ideal panelist for a Creator Roundtable Panel?
A woman who is actively producing and distributing an independent show in any format. This can be a podcast, vlog, newsletter, live streaming or magazine. Honestly, the format is flexible because creators have a long lifetime and itโs Amyโs opinion that most of us change distribution channel and format along the way but we shouldnโt be discounted just because we shift from still photos to an audio podcast or from a podcast to a streaming show. Each guest needs to have a YouTube presence that makes cross-distribution possible.
The only requirement for the perfect guest is that you are actually doing it. Not planning to. Not about to. Not researching. Youโve pushed publish. We are people who are doing it.
That said, this is not an elitist table. You don’t need an Emmy, a SAG card, or a journalism degree. You don’t need a massive audience or a decade of experience. You donโt need to be a full time creator. This can be a project within a business. If you launched last month you deserve to sit at this table with someone who launched ten years ago because your experience is just as real and just as valuable.
The creators who get called experts in this industry are often the furthest removed from the actual experience of building something independently. That distance is exactly why this show exists.
Creators love to be beginners. We may know a lot about something we’ve done for a long time but want to jump into something brand new. The difference between a guest on this show and an aspiring creator isn’t experience level. The separation that I’m looking for is that the people on the panel are doing the thing, figuring it out in real time, and willing to say so out loud. The reason for this distinction is simple: there are already a crapton of resources to help people start new podcasts, youtube channels and newsletters. What’s missing is the discussion of everything that comes next.
As we all know audience growth is always the top conversation topic that everybody wants to talk about and weirdly nobody is talking about. She needs to have something to say about what it’s actually like to build something independently as a woman. We talk about craft, the business, the experience. Mostly itโs all about the willingness to say it out loud on a panel with peers.
If you want to be considered as a panelist please complete the opt-in form and you’ll be offered a way to set up a pre-interview conversation with Amy.
Panels are currently open to women with active podcasts and/or YouTube channels. That may expand over time.
